Welcome to Room 8's class blog! We are a class of Year 5 and 6 students at Tamaki Primary School in Auckland, New Zealand. Our teacher is Miss Morrison.
One of our goals for the term has been to do a science experiment each week!
In Week 1 we did a science experiment that involved mixing food colouring, milk and detergent and watching the reaction. We wrote down all of the powerful language that was being discussed to help us write detailed recounts after the experiment.
Room 7 came and joined us for this lesson and we had a lot of fun.
Check out some of the photos and blog posts about the activity!
Last week we had an AMAZING art lesson where we learnt all about this famous artist called Jackson Pollock and his unique painting technique. Read Hope T's recount below!
RING. The bell went for all of the students to go back to class.we all arrived to class. we sat on the mat and waited for a while. Room 7 came into our classroom because we were doing painting.
Good morning Room 7 and 8 Miss Morrison said we are going to do painting today not just any kind of painting and painting from a famous arts. Well my beautiful teacher miss Morrison showed us what the painting looked like and who the famous arts was. First she made one for us to look at then she told us about the famous arts his name was jackson pollock the painting he made was a very expensive because the painting he made was a very amazing art he sold it for $140 million.
We all lined up outside of the classroom and we waited for the teachers to come in the front so we can head off .
Down stairs to the grass near the park. I put the cardboard down. We went somewhere and separate because we might splash the paint on them. Some people stood up and some people sat down. we all started. we splashed the painted everywhere we splashed and splitted the paint. I used black and it looked like night I flicked the stick like a wound and I drizzled the black and white and it look like storm. I flicked the stick and it made blobs of paint . I went with the paint and almost covered the whole cardboard. finally we finished we all lined up.
We went back to class and we put all of our painting on the tables in Room 8's classroom.
This term we are having a focus in Room 8 on managing ourselves and our emotions. It is important to be able to know how we are feeling and that it is ok to feel those emotions. The thing we need to work on is managing how we behave when we are feeling sad, angry, happy etc.
Today we had a look at the "Zones of regulation" and how to support ourselves when we are feeling different ways.
Check out this video to help explain what the zones are:
One of the key parts of this video is to remember that it is absolutely FINE to feel any of these emotions. Whether you are in the blue zone, red zone or green zone it is normal. It is even expected to be in each of these zones everyday! What we must work on is how we manage ourselves and our behaviour.
Room 8 had a go at reflecting on what their different zones looked like and how they could manage themselves. Take a look at their excellent work!
