Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori

Last week we celebrated Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Māori Language week!)

We had some great language lessons and learnt a Waiata with our buddy class.

We had a great Ako session from some Room 10 students, Michael, Curtys and Kenneth. They came in and taught us a game called Pūkana - which we are loving! We also learnt our Mihi's and did some Māori hand art.

We learnt the Waiata E tu Kahikatea with our Room 2 buddies. We then made leaves to wear to represent us standing together as the Kahikatea tree.
We performed this in our Māori language week assembly!

The words of the Waiata are:
E tu kahikatea
Hei whakapae ururoa

Awhi mai awhi atu
Tatou tatou e

The translation is:
Stand like the kahikatea (tree)
To brave the storms

Embrace and receive
We are one together

Making Slime!

Today we had a freaky Friday session and made Slime!

As part of our inquiry this term we are looking at what people do for Hobbies and a popular suggestion from the students was to invent and create stuff. At the moment, lots of Room 8 have been buying or making 'slime' at home so we thought we would make it as a class!

It was a very interesting experience and it got messy quick - but it was lots of fun. We then sat and brainstormed about how it felt to have the slime in our hands. We came up with some great describing words.

Check out some of the photos below of our science experience and some of the students reflections.

Hope L @ Tamaki Primary School: How to make slime?: We are learning how to make slime.

Lia @ Tamaki Primary: SLIME: The first time when i made slime it did not work and I am going to show you some  photos.
